The architectural and lighting design project for the Ostras Frescas party is a temporary intervention in a warehouse of an old metalworking factory from the 1960s, with 9,000 m2 of free space and 16 m of ceiling height. Since the space originally had a total capacity for 6,000 people, while the party was designed for 2,500, the challenge of the project was to ask how to build the experience of proximity and intimacy of the dance floor in a space that suggested dispersion?
The experience of the project begins at the entrance. We sought to reduce the scale of the warehouse by means of a 40.00 m long tunnel covered in black fabric, establishing a ceiling height of 2.20 m and contrasting with the lighting focused on the floor. At the end of this entrance path, a kind of internal cocoon appears, in contrast, which is manifested by the intervention's central light fixture: a lamp made of a large curved fabric measuring 120.00 m in perimeter and 5 m in height, suspended in the space by a ring of boxtrusses that also serves as support for the light, laser and smoke equipment. The combination of these three elements acting simultaneously creates a new virtual covering that helps to reduce the scale of the space and the ceiling height within this area, which is where the dance floor is formed. Service and support areas, such as bars, bathrooms, rest areas and technical corridors, are positioned to the sides and outside of the lamp, keeping them with low lighting and in contrast to the central element.
For a neutral space, we proposed a unique experience.
For a cold area, warmth. For straight lines, curves. For an empty warehouse, a dance floor, a temporary refuge.
